Be Inspired By The Trendiest Furniture From Salone Del Mobile 2018 – See the cutting-edge creations from the trendsetting furniture fair.
The showcase of products in this year’s Salone Del Mobile in Milan mirrored the diversity celebrated in the luxury world. The fair saw the best creative and manufacturing minds collaborating with talents from a wide range of backgrounds, embracing different styles, and experimenting with new materials and production techniques. See some of the cutting-edge results in the following images.
Starting with Studio Roso’s mirrors for Fritz Hansen, which are dazzling. They combine hand-painted aquarelle graphics with semi-transparent glass. The result is a playful, iridescent surface that’s defined by the environment’s lighting and viewing angle. An accessory to enliven forgotten corners and expansive walls.
The N01 dining chair, Fritz Hansen’s first tie-up with Nendo, melds Japanese perfectionism with the Danish brand’s famed plywood moulding technique. It’s made entirely out of wood, with a solid wood frame supporting the layered veneers that make up the back and seat.
Hong Kong designer André Fu’s debut piece for Louis Vuitton is a graceful two-seater chair that celebrates the intimate moments shared during face-to-face conversations. The Ribbon Dance chair captures the fluidity of Asian ribbon dances and is a wonderful addition to the existing travel-inspired Objets Nomades collection.
Patricia Urquiola reimagines what’s familiar with the Vimini seating collection for Kettal, which features classic outdoor wicker in traditional braiding, and a silhouette that’s somewhat modernist. It all comes together in a contemporary design with a rounded, basket-like form that can be admired from all angles.
The Cestlavie baskets, Living Divani’s first collaboration with Copenhagen-based studio Gamfratesi, draw its inspiration from traditional Danish sewing baskets. In this modern interpretation, they are supported by delicate-looking but structurally strong metal legs that give the impression of floating baskets.
The Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition, always one of the top highlights during the design week, housed the works of seven local designers, all made around the theme of Wellness + Wonder. This includes Olivia Lee’s Elixir cabinet which references Chinese folklore about immortality.
