London Design Festival is a great event! We would like to tell you about one nice installation that took place on London.
The French artist Charles Pétillon has put together many-many balloons to form Heartbeat. As a matter of fact, this seems to be his first public art installation in a public space, which fills the South Hall of the Grade II-listed Victorian Market Building.

Covent Garden is one of the most distinct and vibrant estates in London, as it is now home to Chanel, Dior, Balthazar and Ivy Market Grill and has recently unveiled some of the finest residential properties in London. Covent Garden has commissioned French artist Charles Pétillon, who is famous for his playful balloon ‘invasions’. Furthermore, Pétillon’s balloons are illuminated with a gently pulsing white light, hence the title of the work. Clusters of balloons, which continually pulsate with gentle white light, will form an inflated fantasy within the Market Building.

Titled ‘Heartbeat’, the work comprises of 100,000 white balloons, mixing classic architecture with contemporary art and was inspired by the energy and dynamism of Covent Garden which sits at the beating heart of London. The installation will run from 27th August to 27th September.
Besides, there will also be a pop-up gallery on the Piazza (Unit 5, Royal Opera House Arcade), where photographs of Pétillon’s previous balloon work Invasions will be shown as well.
