Located by the sea, this modern home in the tiny coastal town of Portsea, on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, has been designed by Melbourne based firm Mim Design to be the perfect family escape.
According to Miriam Fanning, Mim Design Director, the owners of the beach house wanted to walk in and immediately relax. In order to achieve that, the elements were chosen for designer’s tactile nature and ability to foster a sense of casual, refined and modern seaside luxury. Take a look at the result!

They include slatted timber wall panels, super soft knotted wool carpets and natural stone benches. The overall result is a beautifully relaxing home that feels both sleek and soothing.
Stunning artworks by Kristian van der Beek and Kirra Jamison add a touch of color to the predominantly grey and neutral palette.
The apartment features 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The adults’ wing comprises a main bedroom with a bench nook, custom robes, built-in dresser and an extensive marble ensuite. While the children’s zone features a separate living area with two bedrooms and access to a two-way ensuite that overlooks a courtyard garden.
The team was satisfied with the result. “We wanted to create a relaxing home, where a family could spend quality time together in a picturesque coastal environment that feels both sleek and soothing, and we believe we’ve managed to strike that balance”.
